Joseph Campbell and Marija Gimbutas Libraries

The Campbell and Gimbutas libraries are located on Pacifica Graduate Institute’s Lambert Road campus. These books are non-circulating and can only be viewed by appointment or on Sundays from 2:00pm to 4:00pm. Joseph Campbell Collection of Books
Joseph Campbell’s personal reference library contains over 3,000 books covering the various fields of mythology, literature, art, philosophy and religion. A number of the volumes are rare and many of the books contain Campbell’s marginalia. Search the Joseph Campbell Library Catalog.

Marija Gimbutas Collection of Books
Marija Gimbutas’ personal reference library holds over 1,600 books with an extensive collection on archaeology, as well as numerous volumes about religion, anthropology, linguistics, mythology, folklore, and art. Search the Marija Gimbutas Library Catalog.

Opus Libraries

Myth Collection
Donated to the archives by the Joseph Campbell Foundation, this collection includes over 600 volumes on mythology, folktale, and fantasy.

Marion Woodman Collection of Books
Contains 1,790 volumes from Marion Woodman’s library, her husband Ross Woodman’s library, and the Marion and Ross Woodman joint library. The collections together include scholarly works, reference, poetry, non-fiction and fiction, some with marginalia.

OPUS Archives is open weekdays during academic sessions 10 AM to 5 PM by appointment. Expanded research access on evenings and weekends may also be scheduled pending staffing availability.
