The William Henry Barnes Collection

Screen shot 2015-01-06 at 3.52.54 PMJudge William Henry Barnes (1842-1931) was a pioneer attorney from Ventura, California. Like other individuals in the late 19th and early 20th century, Judge Barnes had a fascination with spiritualism. Prior to settling in Ventura, Barnes lived in Kansas where he was an attorney who represented the railroad and where he served as a member of the Kansas State Legislature. He was appointed to the Ninth Judicial Court for the southern district of the State of California in 1904.

Barnes’ rare book collection includes over 80 books covering various aspects of topics related to the esoteric field of spiritualism.
