Research in the Archives
OPUS welcomes visiting guests and researchers. The collections are non-circulating. Please note that we require at least two weeks notice in order to schedule a research visit, and that information regarding interest and subject matter to be reviewed is necessary to plan a visit.
How to Prepare for and Conduct Research at Opus
For a scholar’s visit, we need time to prepare and to do our research so you can do yours! Our staff makes every effort to design the research experience for optimum productivity and efficiency. To prepare for your visit:
- Acquaint yourself with the scholar’s bibliography, see the collection overviews for information about the scholar’s and their published works. Some collections offer more thematic organization of material. Identify titles of books or essays, as the collections are generally organized this way. For example, Re-Visioning Psychology research notes and drafts, or essays.
- Search the online database for individual or cross-collection results.
Once you begin to get a sense of what you need and to make a research appointment, please contact the Archivist and we will begin designing your research visit.
Scheduling a Research Visit
Manuscripts and papers are located on the Pacifica Graduate Institute Ladera campus, and the Joseph Campbell and Marija Gimbutas personal libraries are located on Pacifica’s Lambert campus. See Visiting OPUS for more information on archive or special library hours and to schedule a visit to either location.
